A Fosna–Hensbacka culture group. The name Fosna takes its name from Fosna or Lille-Fosen, the former name of Kristiansund, and it is an umbrella term for the oldest settlements along the Norwegian coast, from Hordaland to Nordland.

The focus of research concerns the Hensbacka culture group in central Bohuslän, a group of hunter‐gatherers which visited the area between c.10,300–9300 bp (10,200/10,000–8500 cal BC). Recently, Dr Lou Schmitt, University of Gothenburg, Sweden, brought to the author’s attention a single-edged (tanged) point of the Western Swedish Hensbacka Complex, which is almost identical to the piece from Brodgar (Figs 4-5) – and it is associated with a scientific date!

8300 BCE – 7300 BCE, or 12000 cal BP – 10500 cal BP), were two very similar Late Palaeolithic/early Mesolithic cultures in Scandinavia, and are often subsumed under the name Fosna–Hensbacka culture' (Wikipedia 2018). Ahrensburg culture belongs to a Late Paleolithic and early Mesolithic (or Epipaleolithic) cultural complex that started with the glacial recession and the subsequent disintegration of Late Palaeolithic cultures between 15,000 and 10,000 calBC.The extinction of mammoth and other megafauna provided for an incentive to exploit other forms of subsistence that included maritime resources.

In this paper we will bring into view new aspects of Late Palaeolithic and early Mesolithic research on the west coast of Sweden. In doing so, we make use of oceanography and tidal modell Lou Schmitt har i Oxford Journal of Archeology Volume 13, No. 3, i november 1994, och i samlingsverket Man and Sea in the Mesolithíc [9] beskrivit en ny tolkning av dessa boplatser. På den tiden låg landet mycket lägre, och inlandssocknen Kållered utgjordes då av några öar och näs i det dåtida Kattegatt.
